Taga Taisha Shrine ( 多賀大社 ) is one of the most famous and historically important shrines in Shiga. It has strong ties with the imperial shrine in Ise because the two gods worshipped at Taga, Izanagi and Izanami, are the the parents of the Ise’s main deity, the sun goddess, Amaterasu. According to shinto mythology, Izanagi and Izanami are also the creators of the Japanese islands.
