Suga Shrine

Suga Shrine (須賀神社) is on the northern coast of Lake Biwa is a tiny Nagahama village called Sugaura. Until 50 years ago, the village was only accessible by boat. The shrine is unique in that visitors must remove their shoes at the hand washing basin before ascending the final set of stone steps. The shrine itself is quite small, but the scenery is beautiful as it sits on the small mountainside overlooking Sugaura village and Lake Biwa. See Japanese Wikipedia for more info.
